Our Legacy Began With the Mother of Family Law in Texas
The law firm roots date to 1956 when the late Louise Ballerstedt Raggio left her job as Dallas County’s first female assistant district attorney to join the law practice of her late husband, Grier Raggio, Sr. In later years, all three sons- Grier, Jr., Thomas and Kenneth- joined the firm. Known as the “Mother of Family Law in Texas,” Louise was also a issues-lawyers/) mentor, a civil rights activist, and a champion for the rights of women Newsletter/Blog and children. She fought for decades in the courts, in bar associations, and in the Texas legislature to change Texas family laws and make them fair to women and children.
The video introduction used at the SMU Dedman School of Law, Louise B. Raggio Endowed Lecture Series is Here and describes her life and career.
The late Grier Raggio lovingly supported Louise’s law reform and advocacy work while he built his own career in real estate, civil litigation and civil rights. The present firm carries on the founder’s core value: Listen carefully to the client’s family law needs and then act to the best of the lawyer’s ability to satisfy the client’s custody, financial and emotional needs using counseling, fact-gathering, negotiations and litigation as necessary.
Their parents’ commitment and work for families at Raggio and Raggio, PLLC is carried on by Tom Raggio and Ken Raggio now that Grier Raggio, Jr. is of senior status.
